Big-name Athletes Look to Waco for Rehab
May 15, 2007 - Houston Chronicle

...Given McGrady's run of good health and stellar performances after he consulted Patterson last December, it has become fashionable to describe his technique as witchcraft, even though it's a far cry from the occult.

"It's just common sense," Patterson said. "I try to see why you aren't balanced. None of us is perfect physically or mentally or spiritually. We get into strains, and strains become compensations.

"A specialist looks at one particular thing. If you go to a neurologist, he's not going to start by looking at your feet. There's is a missing link between medicine and therapy, and it's determining the trigger. What came first to get you out of balance?"

Frequently, the trigger isn't obvious. McGrady came to Waco for help in coping with back spasms. Patterson started not with McGrady's back but rather with his knees.

"Everybody looks at his back, and they miss the fact that his head is pulled to the right, his right shoulder is dropped forward and when he goes to sit down, he puts his hands down to steady himself, which means he has very little leg strength," Patterson said.

McGrady Remains Impressed with Waco Specialist's Work
February 10, 2007 - Houston Chronicle

Rockets guard Tracy McGrady made his now monthly visit to Waco to be treated by rehabilitation specialist John Patterson, and described the latest session as no more than a tuneup.

"I go once a month, just to go," McGrady said. "I want to make sure the thing was aligned. He popped my knee back in place, made sure there was no inflammation in my back and took out any inflammation that was there. Just a quick touch-up. I'm a believer. It's impressive."

The Waco Solution: Bonzi Sees the "Healing Specialist"
January 10, 2007 - Houston Chronicle

About the time Tracy McGrady topped 30 for the sixth consecutive game, maybe earlier, Bonzi Wells decided he and his sore back needed whatever it was that Tracy McGrady found in Waco.

On Tuesday, he got it, and the Rockets could get Wells back from his sore lower back much earlier than expected.

He did not have the scheduled anti-inflammatory shot on Monday, instead joining McGrady on Tuesday for a trip to McGrady's Waco rehabilitation therapist John Patterson.

"It's feeling better, a lot better," Wells said. "I went to the doctor (Tuesday) with Mac. Mac took me to his healing specialist. He did wonders for me. I feel great. They were talking like I would need shots or surgery. He (Patterson) got me back in line, popped me back in place and did everything that can prevent me from having to go to surgery. He did a great job. Hopefully, it's going to take for me.

New Treatment Buoys McGrady
Back problems located, corrected, says rehab specialist

December 29, 2006 - Houston Chronicle

...McGrady had begun to lose hope that he would be back this month.

"The treatment I got to get back so quick, I can't even explain it," McGrady said. "It was like he popped my knee back in place. Even my feet - I'm flat-footed, very flat-footed - they were doing this on my foot. After a while, they saw an arch on my foot.

"I had a little attitude about it, thinking it was not going to work. When I went to the office, I was still sore. I was still crooked a little bit.

"Every time I sit down for a while, it takes me awhile to straighten up. They worked on me for about 2 1/2 hours. I popped off that table and stood straight up.

"It worked. I thought I'd be out another month or so.

"This is what I love to do. I hate being out. I hate being injured and sitting back watching my guys go out every night competing without me."

Now, Patterson said, he won't have to.
